The Suns Scribe Podcast is back! After re-joining the Phoenix Suns beat for Forbes, the podcast has returned with a bang. In the re-launch episode, which will have new ones released three times per week, Mo Dakhil of Bleacher Report and The Athletic stops by to chat about the Phoenix Suns’ incredible run.
First, we go over how the Chris Paul trade has elevated to the Suns to levels they haven’t reached in over a decade. How was CP3 able to lift Phoenix in this manner? A lot of it actually ties back to head coach Monty Williams.
Speaking of Williams, who should have won Coach of the Year instead of New York’s Tom Thibodeau, he has the Suns’ entire roster 100 percent bought in right now. Not only is the culture reset in Phoenix, but the discipline on both sides of the floor is incredible to watch.
Also, how about GM James Jones? The work he’s done to overhaul this roster has put him in serious consideration to win Executive of the Year. We analyze how Jones was able to put this team together, albeit with minimal resources.
Closing out the show, it’s time to turn our attention to how the Suns have fared in the playoffs. After defeating the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers in the first round, Phoenix has the Denver Nuggets on the ropes with a 2-0 lead. Are the Suns about to make quick work of Denver in the Western Conference Semifinals? What are some potential adjustments Denver can make, if any, to stop the Suns from steamrolling them in quick fashion?
Overall, the 2020-21 Phoenix Suns are one of the best stories in recent years. If they make a trip to the NBA Finals after missing the playoffs since 2010, it would put the Suns in truly historic territory. Mo believes there’s a real chance this scenario could actually play out as well.
